Professor Md. Amir Hossain, FCPS
Md. Amir Hossain graduated as MBBS from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, Barishal in September 1982 and obtained FCPS in July 1990 (Internal Medicine) from Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS). He joined as an in-service trainee in 1982 and worked for 33 years across primary, secondary, and tertiary government hospitals.
During his career, he served as Professor and Head of Medicine in medical colleges, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and member of academic councils at Chittagong University, Chittagong Medical University, and BCPS (Internal Medicine).
After retiring from government service, he worked as Principal of Chattagram International Medical College and Director of its hospital, a private medical institution in Chittagong.
He contributed as Chair/Member in various committees and societies at regional, national, and international levels, focusing on clinical care, guideline development, medical education, research, and health sector policies.
He has published over 50 articles in national and international journals. He received the "Paper of the Year" award in 2010 from the British Medical Journal for work on rectal artesunate suppositories in the treatment of severe malaria at the community level.
As a tropical medicine expert, he is globally recognized for achievements in malaria, poisoning, and snakebite research. He served as President of The Bangladesh Society of Medicine (BSM), Chittagong branch, and currently serves as President of The Bangladesh Society of Infectious and Tropical Disease (BSITD), a member of the Toxicology Society of Bangladesh, and General Secretary of Dev Care Foundation.
